Glasgow City Mission has been showing practical Christian Care to those trapped in poverty since 1826. They demonstrate God’s love by serving those who are homeless and marginalised in Glasgow City Centre, plus the children and families of Govan through their Child & Family Centre. The Centre provides a nursery, parent/toddler group and parenting classes, designed to give kids in Govan the best start possible in life and equip parents with confidence and skills.
Who you will be helping
Glasgow City Mission’s City Centre project feeds an average of 130 men and women each evening. By understanding each person’s individual needs, Glasgow City Mission connects people to their daytime activity programme. Almost 30 clubs and activities seek to rebuild confidence, self-esteem and develop practical, usable skills including helping people find suitable training or employment. Opportunities to explore the Christian faith are also provided.
Spread the word
It costs just £1 to provide someone at the evening drop-in with hot, nutritious food. Often the drop-in is the first point of contact, with men and women coming for basics such as food, showers and company when they have hit their lowest point. Relationships built here can be the first step towards the person learning about God’s love for them, and beginning to improve their situation.
